Luxembourg, 24 August 2022 Artec 3D has announced a collaboration with the Human Rights Conduct Department of the National Police of Ukraine.

Using their position as a global leader in the 3D scanning industry, Artec is ready to provide high-end solutions that would facilitate forensic documentation of evidence of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide committed throughout the territory of Ukraine.

The collaboration was announced during a press conference held in the LUkraine office in Luxembourg, marking six months of war and Ukraine's Independence Day.

"Since the beginning of the war, the National Police of Ukraine has initiated more than 89,500 criminal proceedings based on the facts of crimes committed under martial law," said Ruslan Horyachenko, head of the Human Rights Department in the National Police of Ukraine. "The National Police of Ukraine collects evidence every day. And new documentation technologies are useful, including 3D technology. Therefore, we decided to start this cooperation with the Luxembourg company Artec 3D.”

“The National Police continue to work hard every day, and technology is key to speed and efficiency,” Horyachenko elaborated. “We are currently testing the use of Artec 3D scanners to document war crimes.”

There are many ways Artec 3D technology can be used in war zones. For example, 3D scanning solutions are instrumental for war crime evidence documentation, craniofacial identification, and documenting human remains as well as damage to homes, vehicles, and infrastructure. While the Ukrainian Army, Territorial Defense Forces, and civil authorities are currently working on cleaning up affected cities, potential evidence of war crimes is quickly becoming contaminated, destroyed, and lost forever. It is essential to capture this data as quickly and accurately as possible.

CEO and President of Artec 3D Artyom Yukhin said, “We’re really honored to be able to work with Ukrainian police, and are glad that our technologies can be put towards such an important application.”

Expanding on the company’s position, Yukhin added, “We are a global company based in Luxembourg, and with a presence in over 60 countries. Since the beginning of this barbaric invasion, our multinational community in its entirety have come together to stand with the Ukrainian people.”

Artec possesses a unique technology that accomplishes this task most efficiently, and the company has certified partners worldwide. The Artec Leo 3D scanner is the only scanner in the industry that can scan evidence and entire crime scenes extremely quickly and easily, both indoors and outdoors. Leo can be used by any person, even someone without any previous scanning experience.

Being wireless and portable, in a matter of seconds to mere minutes, Artec Leo can capture evidence and complete crime scenes in 3D, and forensic experts can then analyze the data in lifelike color 3D immediately afterwards. The captured data can be securely uploaded to Cloud storage, where it can be safely accessed and processed by investigators, as well as authorized agencies and criminal courts anywhere in the world.

Artec scanners are in active use by police departments and other agencies in many countries, too. The 3D digital evidence collected by our forensic 3D scanners is lifelike and legally efficacious. It provides submillimeter precision for digital copies of the original objects or scenes, which can then be analyzed and measured in a more accurate and comprehensive manner, thus turning evidence of war crimes into material that can be both used during investigations as well as presented in court, enabling quick and decisive convictions.
