3D digitalization is a new trend in museology that has been gaining pace very quickly, enabling art aficionados and researchers to view museum exhibits and archaeological artifacts in 3D on their computers.

Over the past year, Artec scanners have been employed in various heritage preservation projects across the world, including in Britain, Bulgaria and Peru, to help museums create online collections in 3D, and in the summer of 2014 the Artec team travelled to an archaeological site in Kenya to work alongside the famous archaeologist Louise Leakey scanning fossils of prehistoric animals and hominids.

We’ll be happy to share our experience in 3D digitalization with you at MuseumNext, Europe’s major conference on the future of museums, in Geneva. Artec is a gold partner of the event, together with our Swiss partner, Visual Data Systems.

Be sure to come to our joint workshop on Day 1 of the conference, where we’ll be showing how to create quality 3D content quickly and easily and how generated 3D data can leverage digital museum experience. Artec 3D scanning solutions produce high-resolution scans in vivid color no matter how complex the object’s geometry. The workshop will also provide a theoretical background on structured light 3D scanning technology, focusing on the capabilities of handheld scanners, and will feature a practical 3D scanning demonstration. Attendees, including newcomers to 3D scanning, will be able to try out the technology for themselves.

On Days 2 and 3, we’ll be showcasing our handheld scanners, Eva and Spider, together with Visual Data Systems, in the exhibition area running alongside the main conference program.

Workshop “3D Content: Making Your Story Stand Out”: 3.45 pm, April 19, Musée d’Art et d’Histoire (Rue Charles-Galland 2, Geneva, Switzerland)

Exhibition: April 20-21, Stand #1, Bâtiment des Forces Motrices (Place des Volontaires 2, Geneva, Switzerland)
